Who are the Board Game Jester??
Greetings! And salutations! And other words that will trick you into feeling safe . . .
My real life in-person name is Sean, and I identify as Minnebraskan (Half-Minnesotan, Half-Nebraskan). I’ve lived an odd life of bouncing around from hobby to hobby, always looking for the thing that makes me happiest in the moment. I’ve never bothered with long term thinking (That sh*ts for wanted criminals) and so I hunt for activities that release the serotonin unabashedly. Throughout the years, some of the feel-good banger hobbies I’ve found are:
- Horror Movies - The dark subject matter, brutal deaths, and the bodacious toy lines of horror films always make me smile. I technically love dramas more, but a great horror film will beat a great drama every day of the week. And when a drama-horror baby pops out (Like the Orphanage) nothing sparks my creativity more.
- Roguelite Video Games - It started with Slay the Spire and grew into Hades. Holy f*ck are these games rewarding. At this moment, I’m currently taking a break from them, as Against the Storm really tested my ability to “Memorize how all the sh*t interacts.” But G*d d*mn I will return to show those beavers some true leadership!
- Digital Deck-Builders - It started with Slay the Spire and ended with, well, Slay the spire is still God, but I’ve found PLENTY other goodies. Monster Train, Ratropolis, and Roguebook just to name a few. I do play some solo physical board games (Helloooooooo Spirit Island!), but I usually opt for a digital deck-builder instead. Skiing/Snowboarding - Surprise! I like to go outdoors (Hope that doesn’t offend anyone). And flying down a hill at break-neck speeds is easily the best thing to do when the snow makes everyone miserable.

- Working Out at the Gym - Due to my brain wanting to daydream 120% of the day, I have found working out in the gym rather enjoyable. I do understand that enjoying physical exercise is bonafide f*ck*d up, I know. But still, if it works it works. What am I gonna do, argue with my frontal lobe? I rarely win that argument.
- Acting - I unfortunately have a job that requires me to work evenings, so this hobby is currently on hiatus. The good news is my D&D campaign keeps the acting chops alive and flailing.
- Writing Short Stories - Everything I write is either an attempt to make you laugh, or an attempt to scare the sh*t out of you. One will appear in this blog, and the other is used in my short stories. If anyone of you become terrified after reading one of my blogs, well that’s on me cause I got em twisted.
My tastes in board games typically align with a Euro-Gamer. Mechanics and strategy are my main concerns while theme and components can literally go f*ck themselves. I’m here to drain the brain, not to play with the children’s toys that come packaged in Blood Rage. Sorry not sorry about the name drop.
However, Blood Rage is in my collection and will more than likely never leave. Why? Cause my REAL goal in life, and the reason I started this blog, is to get people into the hobby and make them happy. The people I play games with are MUCH more valuable than the idea of me winning my favorite game. I’d rather lose to you in Blood Rage while we laugh at our own deaths, then win handily in Ora et Labora as you cry miserably. Just call me a saint I guess.
So that’s where I’ve landed in life – to spread the word of board games and get you to laugh as I do so. Every blog on here may be littered with insults and complaints, but I only write it in jest. Every entry of a top ten will be honest; the explanation will be guaranteed over the top.
